Nerve Roots




The nerve fibers in your spinal cord branch off to form pairs of nerve roots that travel through the small openings between your vertebrae. The nerves in each area of the spinal cord connect to specific parts of your body. This is why damage to the spinal cord can cause paralysis in certain areas and not others. It depends on which spinal nerves are affected. The nerves of the cervical spine go to the upper chest and arms. The nerves of the thoracic spine go to the chest and abdomen. The nerves of the lumbar spine reach to the legs, pelvis, bowel, and bladder. These nerves coordinate and control all the body's organs and parts, and allow you to control your muscles.



The nerves carry electrical signals back to the brain that allow you to feel sensations. If your body is being hurt in some way, your nerves signal the brain. Damage to the nerves themselves can cause pain, tingling, or numbness in the area where the nerve travels. Without nerve signals, your body would not be able to function.

Sleepless night!

All Nighter....

I stayed up all last night. While laying down, the right side of my lower back was hurting, more like nerve pain and earlier in the day I was having pain down my left leg to my foot. I then got on the treadmill and after I got off the left side of my lower back had shooting pain. I did not have any pain while on the treadmill. The doctor told me not to take my morphine patches after "a little man was chasing me". I guess morphine can cause hallucinations. After a week and a half off the patches I decided I really needed to put a patch back on. It has seemed to have helped with the pain. My friend Vickie, bought me a Jewel Quest CD last weekend to help with boredom. I stayed up all night playing this game. I really liked it. It also had battleship on it and Joey and I played. Joey loved it. I might need to get him this game for his birthday. I really need to start planning his birthday party!

Sunday.....I hate when Chuck leaves!

I hate it when Chuck has to leave in Sunday, but he has been taking such good care of me! I still have to do the treadmill and wear my bone growth stimulator for 4 hours! I hate wearing that. I am having nerve pain down my left leg down to my foot. I have a twitching next to my left eye. It has been doing it for the last 2 days. I hope it has noting to do with my spine or my operation. I guess I will just wait and see. I am a month away from soccer and I am praying I am ready to coach! More later.....

Barkers Dozen

I am missing my sweet little Pete, who is at my mom and dad's house while I am recuperating from my back surgery! My friends down the street just opened up a new business. They make puppy treats. I am thinking about walking down and getting some and mailing to Pete as soon as the weather is a little better. Of course, I guess I have to get Bear some as well! LOL
